Wine x Sam
Grown in Victoria – Made in Seymour – Wine by Sam Plunkett
Founded by husband and wife team Sam Plunkett and Bron Dunwoodie in 2012, Wine by Sam is a family owned winery based in Seymour, Central Victoria. While their winery is relatively young, their vinous history dates back to 1968 — the year our winemaker Sam was born — and when his dad, Alan Plunkett, planted the first vines in the Strathbogie Ranges.
Elevated and cool, their growing region is pretty magical (not that we’re biased or anything!) for growing intense, highly aromatic fruit. And with nearly 30 years’ experience and dozens of awards to his name, Sam is a master at bringing these grapes to life in wines that give you a real flavour of the Strathbogie Ranges spirit.
Wine by Sam founders Sam Plunkett and Bron Dunwoodie have around 8 hectares of their own vines, and they have access to an additional 53 hectares owned by Alan Plunkett (Sam’s dad). Together, these grape gardens include the following varieties: Riesling, Gerwurztraminer, Savagnin, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Lagrein, Tempranillo, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. All of these vines can be found growing at between 450-500m above sea-level in quick-draining, sandy, granitic soils.
Wine by Sam is as local as producers come and can’t wait to share his wine at Tastes of the Goulburn 2018.
